Sonitrol of Lexington was started in
1969 by Harry and Ann Miller. As close friends of the Lexington
police chief at that time, Harry and his wife learned of the new and
exciting concept of Sonitrol, recognizing it as an excellent
opportunity. The Millers grew Sonitrol of Lexington until the
current owners, Sonny and Pat Bates, purchased the dealership from
them in 1984.
Sonny Bates’ career in security began with a nine-year stint as a
Dallas, Texas police officer, before that serving as a US Air Force
military police officer. His primary area of responsibility as a
Dallas police officer was investigation of commercial and
residential burglaries and through his years of investigations,
Sonny noticed a high number of apprehensions resulting from
break-ins at businesses and homes protected by Sonitrol. In fact, he
first learned of Sonitrol by actually apprehending criminals
breaking into businesses protected by Sonitrol systems. Leaving the
police department in 1980, he began working for Sonitrol of Dallas
and within three years became the general manager. Also at this
time, Sonny’s wife Pat went to work at Sonitrol, becoming one of
their more successful salespeople. Together in 1984, they purchased
the Lexington dealership and moved their family to Lexington. Sonny
and Pat and there two sons, Jeremy and Bryan, are all fully active
in the day to day operation of the business.
Since 1984, Sonitrol of Lexington has grown to become the leader in
providing loss prevention services to the Central Kentucky area.
Sonitrol began as a provider of just security systems and has grown
into a true integrator of security and loss prevention services
ranging from burglary and fire detection systems to access control
and video surveillance systems.
In 2001 Sonitrol of Lexington, Inc. started their new residential
division known as ADR Security
Services. ADR stands for “The Affordable Dependable
Response!” and utilizes First Alert Professional and Honeywell
Authorized equipment which provides a cost effective solution for
residential and small commercial security, fire and video needs.
To this day, Sonitrol remains locally owned and operated,
maintaining a state of the art 24-hour central monitoring station.
Sonitrol recently relocated into a newly renovated 8,000 square foot
building on Walton Avenue allowing for future anticipated growth.
This state of the art facility is recognized as one of the most
impressive in the Sonitrol network. Sonitrol clients and those
considering Sonitrol’s services are actively encouraged to visit the
